Build and scale TIVC’s training and development (T&D) department from scratch using instructional design methodologies.

Associate Director, Office of Writing Instruction

Lead the Office of Writing Instruction and contribute to the strategic decision making of the Writing Center as a whole. 

  • Lead a team of three managers and 20 frontline staff, managing yearly goal-setting, budget, performance review, and project staffing process

  • Ensure the quality and development of the Office's writing support services, including one-on-one paper review appointments for students

  • Develop and implement strategic vision for the Office, rallying managers and staff around projects to implement vision

  • Ensure appropriate staffing of the unit's services, along with other services within the Writing Center staff contribute to

  • Develop strong internal Office culture and communication

  • Ensure appropriate distribution of labor across managers and establish manager lead areas and development

  • Provide mentorship and development opportunities for managers

  • Advise the Director on center-wide decisions and implement decisions and initiatives within the Office

  • Collaborate with other Writing Center and Walden University leaders to strategically coordinate support of student writers

  • Co-chair the department’s Social Change Committee and champion social change projects with the Director and university executive leaders

Coordinate the Writing Center’s live and recorded webinar series, short video development and maintenance, and self-paced modules, including:

  • Manage development process for all multimedia resources, considering return on investment

  • Provide guidance to SMEs for content development

  • Produce multimedia resources as instructional designer

  • Gather and analyze data on multimedia resources, revising and updating accordingly

  • Consult with outside SMEs on appropriate use of resource

  • Provide technical support and act as point-of-contact for learners

  • Identify, assess, and implement new technologies; train users on new technology to ensure successful adoption

 

Contribute to the Writing Center’s leadership team, consulting on department-wide decisions, facilitating accessibility discussions, and identifying resource gaps, including:

  • Developing department-wide online accessibility training and implementing accessibility standards

 

Collaborate with other department staff on multimedia resources, improving current resources and identifying areas to innovate, including:  

  • Partnering with SMEs on content creation

  • Presenting to and leading leadership in instructional pedagogy

 

Chair the Writing Center’s social change committee, coordinating virtual volunteer opportunities, social change and DEI initiatives, and the Writing Center's Internship program. See my Service section.

  • Teach graduate students academic writing, including grammar and APA, in a virtual classroom.  

 

In particular, when teaching courses I focus on providing my students a supportive environment in which they can build their confidence as writers. I also focus on meeting students where they are, supporting their development to the next level of their writing skills.
